Reiki is an effective form of healing that can promote both a healthy body and mind. It serves to the enhance and restore key energy centers located throughout the body.
Although classed as “pseudoscience” with no real scientific backing it is used by millions globally and has long been practiced by our ancestors.
That’s why in the following post we’ll break down what Reiki is as well as the use and art of Reiki healing.
So what exactly is Reiki?
In essence Reiki is a form of spiritual healing which is said to have been first practiced in the year of 1922. Mikao Usui who was a Japanese Buddhist was among the first to really practice the art of Reiki healing.
From there Reiki gained more widespread attention and soon spread to Western civilization although the original art of Reiki was slightly “morphed” and become what is now commonly known as “Western Reiki” (a slight variation to the original art of Reiki healing).
The Use Of Reiki Healing
Reiki is primarily used to influence the “chakras” or “meridians” of the recipient. Western Reiki practitioners will incorporate up to 7 different hand positions known as palm healing or hands on healing which influence the bodies chakras or meridians.
Chakras and meridians are theoretically key energy centers located throughout the human body that influence both our mental and physical state of well-being. When a practitioner performs Reiki they’ll use certain hand techniques to influence the chakras and meridians to promote a healthy state of well-being.

The Art Of Reiki Healing
Reiki basically consists of a practitioner placing their hands on and around the chakra points and applying gentle techniques to influence the chakras. The idea is to gently massage the chakra points to transfer energy and get each chakra point vibrating at the correct frequency, restoring them to their natural state.
Sometimes a Reiki practicioner may not even come into direct contact with the recipients body but instead place their hands just above the surface area in order to influence the chakras energy. Reiki practitioners also perform light tapping techniques on and around the bodies meridians. It’s also not uncommon for some practitioners to blow out air as part of the treatment.
So essentially the art of Reiki healing involves a practitioner using their hands in order to transfer energy to key energy centers located throughout the body. The energy associated with this practice is most commonly referred to as “ki”.
Whilst many use the services of a qualified Reiki practitioner it’s possible to learn Reiki at least on a basic level for your own purposes such as self healing. Some may even wish to become a Reiki master, which is also very possible.
What is a Reiki Master?
When it comes to Reiki intuition there are three “attunements” to be learned before you’re considered a Reiki master. A Reiki master is qualified to perform and teach the skills of Reiki to others. As with most skill-sets worth pursuing, learning Reiki can take quite a bit of time and commitment to truly master.
If you’re interested in learning the art of Reiki then it need not be expensive or time consuming. Reiki has become somewhat mainstream in Western civilization with people willingly charging high fees to teach Reiki. Use due diligence and research your Reiki teacher or course you’re investing in before fully committing.
